The Department of Medicine, Genetics Division is seeking a Cytogenetic Technologist to perform job duties in all areas of a cytogenetic diagnostic laboratory. Duties to include: Perform amniotic fluid culture, fibroblast culture, bone marrow culture, T-lymphocyte culture as well as cell harvest and chromosome preparation. Perform staining for G-bands, Q-bands, R-bands, C-bands. Perform chromosome analysis by microscopy required. Handle potential biohazardous specimens (using universal precautions).
- California licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or limited CLS specialist in cytogenetics (requires one year experience in an accredited U.S. cytogenetics laboratory).
- Certification in Clinical Cytogenetics and previous experience in amniotic fluid culture, fibroblast culture, bone marrow culture, lymphocyte culture as well as cell harvest and chromosome preparation.
- Understanding of cell cycle and experience in metaphase cell preparation for all specimen types.
- Working knowledge of aseptic technique in the handling of clinical laboratory specimens.
- Ability to perform specialized tissue culture techniques for cytogenetic applications, and ability to make decision on type of culture processing for cytogenetic samples.
- Knowledge of basic cytogenetic principles and methodology.
- Ability to perform human karyotype analysis by microscopy.
- Must have California Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or limited CLS specialist in cytogenetics.
- Must have NCA certification in clinical cytogenetics.
- Must be willing and able to work with potential biohazardous specimens using universal precautions.
